Getting rid of facial wrinkles and folds can result to a more youthful appearance. That is what Restylane is designed to achieve while its results can last for 6 months or even longer. Restylane is one of the most effective cosmetic dermal fillers indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. The drug is also injected to increase the fullness of lips and that can also significantly contribute towards achieving younger looks. Dr. Bloch is a Chicago plastic surgeon with a long experience of providing treatments using dermal fillers like Restylane. You can book the doctor for an appointment at www.bodybybloch.com and during your consultation process you will know if Restylane is the right treatment for you.
WHAT IS RESTYLANE?1
Restylane is a FDA-approved dermal filler made of a biodegradable, non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA). Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in all living organisms and provides volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane is a gel of hyaluronic acid generated by Streptococcus species of bacteria. It is produced biotechnologically by natural fermentation in a sterile laboratory environment. This significantly diminishes the risk of transmitting diseases between species or of eliciting allergic reactions in patients who are sensitive to common foods, such as beef, chicken and eggs. Restylane does not require any allergy or skin test prior to injection.
TREATMENT TECHNIQUES
Most injectors inject the filler with a small needle under the skin. Numbing creams or injections decrease pain.
A new way to use Restylane was described in the August 2007 issue of the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology by Dutch cosmetic doctor Tom van Eijk, whose “fern pattern” injection technique aims to restore dermal elasticity rather than to fill underneath the wrinkles. [4]
Preparing for your treatment
During your Restylane treatment consultation, you will be advised on the steps to take for your preparation. There is no pre-testing necessary, but the doctor will ask you to stop taking anti-inflammatory drugs and any unnecessary supplements that are known to increase the risk of bleeding and bruising. If you have previously suffered from any facial cold sores, the doctor will also prescribe medication to help prevent any recurrence.
What happens after your treatment?
After your Restylane treatment, we will give you the specific instructions to follow to help minimize side effects. Swelling can be reduced using cold compresses. You will be advised to avoid sun exposure or any intense heat. Mild swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness and pain are common side effects after treatment but clear within a period of 14 days. Swelling is more likely to occur if patients are aged below 36 years, while bruising is more likely to occur if patients are aged above 35 years. We will advise you on how to follow up for future appointments, but you should contact the doctor should you continue to experience side effects beyond 14 days.
